Who are we?
San Diego Surf Ladies (SDSL) is an all women’s surf club founded in February 2004 to create a supportive surfing community for women surfers in the San Diego area. SDSL provides many social surfing activities for its members including monthly Waikiki sessions (for those that are relatively new to the sport or prefer gentler waves), monthly Shredders sessions (for those that shortboard), monthly Shaka sessions (for all abilities), annual Christmas and end-of-Summer parties, and all sorts of other fun events in between! In addition, SDSL members don’t just stay local. SDSL members travel together to destinations like Mexico, Costa Rica, Australia, and Hawaii seeking awesome waves and sharing the stoke.
SDSL also provides meaningful opportunities for improving our techniques in the water and becoming better surfers. Sport sessions give members the opportunity to boost surfing skills in a supportive environment through professional surf coaching, strength and surf fitness exercises, and even video/photography and analysis.
With that in mind, as members within the greater surfing communities, SDSL is proud to give back through unique volunteering activities at our adopted beach by Cardiff Reef, participating in the "100 Wave Challenge" for Boys to Men (a mentoring program), and collaborating in various local events, philanthropic efforts, and beach clean-ups!
Some of SDSL's goals are:
- Create a positive community among San Diego female surfers
- Learn from and support each other
- Help protect coastal resources
- Host informal surf sessions and social events
- Invite industry influencers to speak at and/or provide special workshops to our members
SDSL is a dynamic and diverse community of surfing women, and encourages women of all ages and abilities to share skills, have fun, and embrace the stoke for the most rewarding sport on the planet. Come join us for genuine camaraderie, surf sisterhood and waves!
