When did you start surfing? I was 14-years-old and was visiting my cousin Jaime who was attending the University of Hawaii at the time in Oahu. She and her boyfriend (now fiancée) took me out on a 10-foot Town and Country longboard. One wave and I rode it all the way onto the beach at the famous Waikiki. I was unbelievably stoked!
Why did you start surfing? The appeal of the Roxy brand and ads out of my teen magazines spoke to me. The girls having fun at the beach and gracefully walking on water made me want to become a surfer girl. It was the lifestyle and carefree attitude that surfing was all about. Jaime, my cousin who took me surfing in Oahu really got me into surfing. It changed my life.
Shortboard or longboard? Shortboard.
Where is your favorite place to surf? Brownhouse and La Fonda when it’s good.
Who is you favorite shaper? So far I like Doc’s Surf Prescriptions boards and Al Merrick’s boards (I have yet to own one).
What's your favorite aspect about SDSL? The amazing friends I’ve met from this club. All of them have inspired me to become a better surfer and a better person. I love the fact that everyone is of all different ages and backgrounds and live different lives, but we all have the common passion of surfing. It’s rad.
Has anyone influenced your surfing? My cousin, women pros surfers and friends.
Where have you traveled to surf? Hawaii, Australia, El Salvador, Baja and Mainland Mex.
Have you surfed competitively? If so, what kind of results?
Does an SDSL summer contest a few years ago count? haha
How does surfing affect you? It makes me sane and a happier person. If I don’t get to surf for a few days, I get itchy and feel like a fish out of water. Once I get back into the water after being out for a while I feel refreshed and have a clear head. Only surfing does that for me.
If you were to tell a newbie some advice, what would it be? After any fall, always cover your head with one hand when coming up to the surface. I’ve learned the hard way and cut my lip pretty bad on my fins before. It’s quoted in Surf Diva’s surf book…check it out!
What's the weirdest thing you've ever seen or experienced while surfing?
Surfing through thousands of dead jelly fish tentacles…your skin gets all rashed out from it. Not very fun!
Surfing over tons of stingrays…I’m glad I didn’t fall off.
Paddling over that rivermouth at Platinitos with crocodiles in it…so glad our guide told us that after we surfed.
What's on your iPod? A mix of hip-hop, reggae, punk and alternative.
