When did you start surfing? I started surfing sporadically a few years ago, and have just taken it up more consistently now. I was in college on the East Coast and living in San Fran after that, so I haven't really had the opportunity to get out frequently until recently when I moved back to San Diego.
Why did you start surfing? I grew up in Solana Beach and have always loved the ocean - it was literally my backyard. My dad used to take me out on my boogie board when I was younger and I could never get enough of it. I guess you could say that I eventually outgrew the boogie board and wanted something more challenging to do in the water. Also, living away from the beach really makes you appreciate it & now that I live close I like to take advantage of how lucky I am.
Shortboard or longboard? Short or long - 8 ft.
Where is your favorite place to surf? Rockpile in Solana Beach in front of where I grew up. Apparently also know as "Azi's Place" among SDSL.
Who is you favorite shaper? Not picky!
What's your favorite aspect about SDSL? It's encouraging to get out in the water more often when you know that other women will be there to have fun & share the stoke!
Has anyone influenced your surfing? I have to say that seeing little kids out there who are shredding it up are an influence…if they can do it - I can too!
Where have you traveled to surf? I surfed in Kauai in April - it was so awesome to surf in such clear, warm water!
Have you surfed competitively? If so, what kind of results? I surf just for fun.
How does surfing affect you? Being outdoors after working all day is such a release and just really good for helping to clear my head. Even if the waves aren't good it is so fun to be out there, sitting on your board with the dolphins, the sunset, and your friends…and the feeling of a wave underneath you…nothing beats it.
If you were to tell a newbie some advice, what would it be? Well as a fellow newbie, my advice would be to keep it up!
What's the weirdest thing you've ever seen or experienced while surfing? ? |
When did you start surfing? I started about a year and a half ago.
Why did you start surfing? I found myself always coming to the beach to watch the surfers and decided to try it out. My first time surfing was the first time ever entering the water! It was a little intimidating to be out there with sea creatures, but I loved it once I got my first real ride down a wave!
Shortboard or longboard? learned on a borrowed 7'6, and just recently graduated to a 6'3. I have now turned my old board into a spray painted masterpiece in my room. =)
Where is your favorite place to surf? Id have to say Mission Beach over all the spots Ive hit in San Diego. Very decent waves, and theres no one EVER out there! You got the whole place to yourself!
Who is you favorite shaper? Even though I now ride a Rusty, I got the chance to test drive my boyfriend 6'3 JC Shortboard . It was soooo fast and really fun! I loved it! This will definitely be my next buy.
What's your favorite aspect about SDSL? I joined the club to meet other girls to paddle out with, because I was tired of the aggression and competition with guys out in the water. SDSL has shown me that women of all ages enjoy the sport as much as I do!
Has anyone influenced your surfing? My surf buddy and I got to be pretty hard core this summer, getting up 4 times a week at 5:30 for those early morning seshs, so having that constant motivation has really influenced me to keep at it. And it pays off!
Where have you traveled to surf? I have surfed the south shores of Hawaii, k-58s ! in Baja, and of course SD.
Have you surfed competitively? If so, what kind of results? Nope, just enjoying the sport for relaxation purposes.
How does surfing affect you? It has really made a positive impact on my athletic skills and I love being out in the water in the early morning, just to be with nature. Its the time we get to relax and let everything go for a while.
If you were to tell a newbie some advice, what would it be? Keep at it, never give up! Once you get that perfect ride down the face, you'll never go back. Oh, and get booties, they have saved me from purple toes numerous times!
What's the weirdest thing you've ever seen or experienced while surfing? Surfing before the tsunami, the waves were dark grey and the sky was a light purple. You could feel something big was coming your way. The ocean was so angry that day, very choppy and stormy. Fun session, but definitely a weird one! |
